Cherupuzha River Rafting

Cherupuzha River Rafting is arguably the premier white-water rafting experience in North Kerala. The activity takes place on the fierce and beautiful Tejaswini River (also known as the Kariangode River), which flows down from the Brahmagiri Hills of Coorg and passes right through the borders of Kannur and Kasaragod.

Because it rushes through dense forest canopies, over hanging tree branches, and rocky gorges, it is widely considered one of the most thrilling jungle-river rafting experiences in South India.

🛶 The Rafting Stretches

The river route is divided into two distinct stretches depending on how intense you want your adventure to be:

  • Upper Tejaswini (Kozhichal to Pulingome): A narrower, technical 7 km stretch running alongside the Coorg forest borders. It is packed with continuous, quick rapids (Class II) and requires active paddling.

  • Lower Tejaswini (Cherupuzha to Kakkayam/Chemmaram Kayam): A wider, high-volume 10 km to 12.5 km stretch. It features fewer total rapids but possesses much stronger, larger waves (up to Class III), culminating at Chemmaram Kayam—the deepest pool in the river.

Many professional operators combine these sections or offer specialized 12.5 km long-distance routes starting from higher upstream points near Cherupuzha, ensuring an uninterrupted adrenaline rush.

Since you are in the Cherupuzha area, you can easily couple a morning rafting trip with an afternoon trek up to nearby viewpoints like Kottathalachi Mala or Thirunetti Kallu.
